Mommy Makeover

Mommy Makeover

“Everything grows rounder and wider and weirder, and I sit here in the middle of it all and wonder who in the world you will turn out to be.”
Carrie Fisher

“Many a beautiful body has been diminished by pregnancy.”

As a mom, you are devoted to your offspring, but don’t ignore yourself in the process. You have taken on a wonderful responsibility and have a new source of joy, but your body and face often go through changes that are not so welcome. A Mommy Makeover is a variable combination of abdominal, breast, liposuction and facial skin-restoring procedures. In a combination designed specifically for you the Mommy Makeover allows you to regain a more youthful appearance, closer to your pre-baby body. You have earned it!

The changes that go along with childbearing are many, including breast, abdomen, hips as well as facial appearance. Not everyone is affected the same, so no two women will need exactly the same treatment. Dr. Jeffrey Copeland will be happy to discuss your concerns in a personal consultation where he will review your needs and decide with you what may be done to give you your best result.

The Abdomen

Of necessity, the mother’s body changes to accommodate the needs of pregnancy. The abdomen relaxes as the skin, muscles and connective tissue expand to make room for the enlarging uterus and baby or babies. After delivery, the abdomen may be left in a stretched condition, possibly with drooping of skin, stretch marks, separation of the muscles, belly button deformity or contour irregularity above a C-section scar. Abdominoplasty is the procedure that addresses these problems. Liposuction may also be used in some cases.

The Breasts

The breasts stretch and grow larger (to varying degrees) to prepare to produce milk for the newborn. Following childbirth, and nursing, the breasts often lose volume and become smaller than their pre-pregnancy size. They may also become droopy. Breast Augmentation is used to restore volume, while Breast Lift (Mastopexy) is used to elevate and reshape drooping breasts. These procedures may be done separately or in combination.

Hips and Thighs

As pregnancy progresses, many women put on significant weight. That fat is helpful as stored energy and may be partially consumed by nursing the baby, but it often persists and settles in the thighs and hips. This area of fat collection is sometimes referred to by the endearing title “saddle bags” to by the endearing title “saddle bags.” Other similarly flattering names may be applied, depending on where the fat resides. Diet and exercise may help but sometimes the fat is very resistant to those efforts and it becomes necessary to treat these areas with Liposuction, which is a very effective approach.

The Face

The face may also change with new areas of increased pigmentation (pregnancy mask), thickening of the skin, adult acne and even new moles in undesirable places. The face is impossible to conceal, so it is important to think about this ultimately visible part of yourself when addressing the areas affected by pregnancy. Effective methods exist to treat local collections of fat, pigment changes, acne and complexion changes.
