Many individuals have concerns about the appearance of the skin surface, including brown spots (“age spots”), red areas (rosacea, small spider veins, or hemangiomas), unwanted hair or acne. Copeland Cosmetic Surgery is pleased to offer Isolaz treatment, which is a very effective technique for management of these problems. We have the newest variety of this device which includes photopneumatic therapy and “profusion” treatments that allow the most effective way to deliver topical medications to the skin.
The Isolaz system treats areas of brown or red pigmentation by applying a hand piece with a very powerful light to the area. The treatment is refined by using a filter which limits the wavelength of the light so that it is most effective for the type of problem that is being treated. A series of treatments is usually necessary for best results. This type of treatment is also sometimes referred to as Broad Band Light Therapy (BBL).
Dark hair may also be treated with the Isolaz system. This is accomplished by damaging the hair follicle which is where the hair growth begins. Some patients say that the treatment is less painful than the commonly used hair reduction lasers.
A relatively new area of treatment with the Isolaz device is adult acne. As mentioned before, the Isolaz has a vacuum component combined with a bright light. The vacuum provides a gentle but effective mechanical extraction of the acne sites. The light source has the effect of reducing the bacteria that are in the affected pores. With routine treatments, very dramatic improvement can be obtained; even those that suffer from cystic acne have appreciated a positive change. The Isolaz is a great way to treat acne without the risks and concerns that accompany treatments like Accutane.
