Missouri State Medical Association Elects St. Louis Area Plastic Surgeon As New President

Dr. Jeffrey Copeland, a cosmetic plastic surgeon in the St. Louis and St. Peters area, was recently chosen to serve as President of the Missouri State Medical Association.

St. Louis MO – Board-certified plastic surgeon Jeffrey Copeland, MD, was recently elected President of the Missouri State Medical Association (MSMA) for the 2014-2015 year. Dr. Copeland, who has more than 25 years experience in cosmetic surgery, says he is pleased to have been chosen for the position and is looking forward to further advancing the mission of MSMA.

“The Missouri State Medical Association is charged with representing the physicians of our state, and with advocating for and promoting safe, effective care for our patients,” says Dr. Copeland. “It is a group that is ultimately directed toward providing the best patient care possible.”

Established in 1850 with more than 6,500 physician members, MSMA works to uphold strong medical standards and ethics, while ensuring that Missourians have access to quality health care. As mentioned in the recent blog post regarding Dr. Copeland’s election as president, the St. Louis plastic surgeon currently replaces James B. Wolfe, Jr., MD, a board-certified otolaryngologist. “I have been preparing for this as a member of the council of the association for many years,” says Dr. Copeland. “I have had the opportunity to learn from some excellent role models over the years, and feel that I am now ready to fulfill the duties of that office for the physicians of Missouri.”

As President, Dr. Copeland will represent MSMA at the state and national levels, and he will be responsible for:

Dr. Copeland, who is a seasoned figure in physician leadership, is past president of the Missouri Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons and the St. Charles-Lincoln County Medical Society. The plastic surgeon also says he established Copeland Cosmetic Surgery in 2005 in order to provide individuals with a patient-centered approach. With a strong inclination of patient advocacy and his experience in organized medicine, Dr. Copeland says he is looking forward to how his position as MSMA President provides him with a unique opportunity to implement several goals during his tenure.

“Physicians should be involved not only in the direct provision of care for their patients, but also in the activities that affect the policies and rules that control the important aspects of patient care,” he says. “I enjoy hearing what other physicians are experiencing in their communities, and looking for ways to improve what we do for our patients. We welcome and encourage patients to be similarly involved about the issues affecting their health care through education, involvement with their doctors and nurses, and through regular communication with their legislators.”
